Overview

i2i Finance, called i2i Balance inside the platform, is a double-entry general ledger service fed by billing events, with enterprise finance built in. It provides balanced journals, a chart of accounts, posting rules held as data that turn billing events into revenue and receivable entries, a trial balance and a report that reconciles the ledger to billing receivables.

It is meant for finance teams who want billing events to become ledger entries without re-keying, working from the same records as billing. Scope depends on your deployment, so ask i2iCore how it sits alongside your accounting package for statutory books and tax filing.

What is a general ledger for an ISP?

A general ledger is the master record of a company's finances. Every business event, such as an invoice, a payment or a credit note, is written as a journal entry with at least two lines, one debit and one credit, and the debits must equal the credits. Balances by account then show what is owed, what has been received and what has been earned.

A chart of accounts names those accounts. A trial balance lists every account with its total, and its purpose is to prove the books balance. Reconciliation checks that the ledger agrees with a subledger: the receivables in the general ledger should equal what customers owe according to billing.

In a billing-fed design the ledger does not depend on manual entry. Billing events are turned into journals by posting rules, and corrections are made by reversing an entry rather than editing it, so history is kept. i2i Finance follows this design, with the journal core, posting rules for invoice, payment and credit note events, a trial balance and a receivables reconciliation.

Capabilities

What i2i Finance does

Journals

  • Double-entry journals where debits equal credits
  • One side per line, immutable once posted
  • Posting is idempotent on source and source reference
  • Reversal creates a new entry and leaves the original

Accounts and periods

  • Chart of accounts per entity, with account roles
  • Fiscal years and periods, with posting only into an open period
  • Dimensions on every line: organisation, customer, service account, product, cost object

Posting rules

  • Event ingest endpoint for billing events
  • Rules for invoice issued, payment received and credit note issued
  • New event mappings are added as data rows
  • Money held in minor units

Reports

  • Trial balance from pre-aggregated balances
  • Reconciliation of ledger receivables to net open billing receivables
  • Dashboard widgets in the admin portal

Foundations

  • Multi-tenant by organisation
  • Line-level currency code and exchange rate, functional currency per entity
  • REST interface under /acct, on PostgreSQL

Use cases

Where i2i Finance is used

  • Prove receivables agree with billing

A finance lead wants evidence that the ledger and the billing system tell the same story. After invoices, a payment and a credit note are posted, the reconciliation report compares ledger receivables with net open receivables in billing and shows whether they are equal.

  • Slice the ledger by customer or product

Because every journal line carries the organisation, customer, service account, product and cost object, a team can total the ledger for one customer or product slice without a separate spreadsheet. This keeps reporting on the same records as billing.

  • Add an event mapping without a release

An accounting lead needs a new billing event to post to the ledger. Because posting rules are rows of data, a new mapping is added to the rule table instead of changing service code, so accounting leads can review each mapping as data.

  • Correct a wrong entry safely

A journal was posted to the wrong account. Instead of editing it, the user reverses it. The reversal is a new entry linked to the original, so the trial balance is right and the history of the mistake is kept.

FAQ

i2i Finance: frequently asked questions

What does i2i Finance cover?

Enterprise finance is built in: a journal core, posting rules, revenue and receivable entries from billing events, a trial balance and a receivables reconciliation report. Ask i2iCore how it fits with your accounting package and statutory books.

Does it replace Tally, Zoho or another accounting package?

Scope depends on your deployment. It records the ledger side of billing events and lets you check that receivables agree. Ask i2iCore how filing, statutory reports and bank work fit alongside your existing tools.

Which billing events post to the ledger?

Invoice issued, payment received and credit note issued. Each is turned into a journal by a posting rule stored as data. Ask i2iCore how billing events reach the ledger in your deployment.

Can entries be edited after posting?

No. Posted journals are immutable. To correct one, you reverse it, which creates a new reversal entry and leaves the original in place. Posting is also idempotent, so the same billing event sent twice does not create two entries.

Which currencies does it support?

Each journal line carries a currency code and an exchange rate, and each entity has a functional currency. Ask i2iCore which currencies are set up for your deployment and how they fit your reporting.

Can several organisations use it at once?

Yes. Data is separated by organisation, with an organisation identifier on records and a chart of accounts per entity. Talk to us about your tenancy needs and how organisations should share reporting.
